It may not ordinarily be considered the most fun game in the world of gambling, but keno has massive amounts of passionate admirers. And it should! It’s a always thrilling lotto-ish game that’s a snap to play, abundantly available in lots of assorted formats, and one that might yield millions for those who master its many subtle nuances. But let’s start with the beginner’s rules for now.
When explaining keno to amateurs, some wagering experts compare it to the lottery. This is at least in some ways correct, in that each game is basically numerical. However, to take that comparison too far can be to detract from the many unique characteristics that make keno so fun. Not like bingo, keno players have the power to choose the numbers for each card.
Keno cards have a total of 80 numbers, but the player is granted an extra level of personal responsibility by being able to select as many (or as few) numbers as he or she desires. And it doesn’t take a keno superstar to ascertain how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark all of your chosen numbers with a ordinary#2 pencil like you had when you were in grade 3.
After you have selected your numbers, take your keno card back to the person at the keno stand. The nice person will record your numbers and then hand you a receipt. Do not misplace this (potentially) lucrative bit of paper! Even if the keno pit manager remembers your loud shirt and wants help out, without a winning slip in hand, you will win precisely $.00 for your time spent.
And there you have strategy number one: always take care to keep your keno receipt. Let us move to something a tiny bit more advanced, ok?
Once you’ve selected your numbers, get into a comfy keno booth and watch the action take place on a monitor. This is where the winning numbers appear for all to see. If you picked winning numbers, mark your card appropriately. Sake care not to dilly dally, or sit there praising yourself for an obnoxious length of time. You want to get up to the keno stand to redeem your winnings, as a new drawing will most likely start within 5 minutes.
Strategy number two: always get back to the keno booth on time!
Assuming you don’t trust yourself to make that 5 minute deadline every time, you always have the option of buying a "multi-race" card. These include the same set of your chosen numbers on anywhere from two to 20 tickets. When the maximum number of games (matching the number of tickets) is played out, you should then get off your numb rump and go collect your winnings.
Yet an additional opportunity is referred to as a "stray and play" keno slip, which normally allows you make number selection for 30 games or more. Hell, you can take a world tour and not have to worry about getting back in time to retrieve your numbers. Most "stray and play" game cards are good for up to a whole year after it’s bought!
So now you are aware of a number of indispensable methods for winning keno. If you are an adept keno player, they might seem to be stupidly obvious. Still, it does not hurt to brush up on the basics, and if you are a novice player, every bit of direction will help make your keno playing time more enjoyable.
