The History of Keno

Keno was created in 200 BC by the Chinese military commander, Cheung Leung who used keno as a finance resource for his failing forces. The city of Cheung was waging a battle, and after awhile of war time appeared to be facing national shortage of food with the drastic decrease in supplies. Cheung Leung had to create a quick fix for the financial disaster and to acquire income for his army. He thusly designed the game we know today as keno and it was a fantastic success.

Keno once was referred to as the White Pigeon Game, since the winning numbers were delivered by pigeons from larger cities to the tinier towns. The lotto ‘Keno’ was imported to America in the 19th century by Chinese newcomers who migrated to the States for jobs. In those times, Keno was played with 120 numbers.
